The dealer's quote should be in writing and include the dealer's state contractor license number. It should name the manufacturer of the equipment, model numbers of the equipment, the cooling capacity of the condensing unit or heat pump, the heating capacities of the furnace, the seer of the condensing unit or heat pump. See "What Efficiency Equipment Should I Buy?" The AFUE of the furnace and the bel rating of the condensing unit, see "What About Sound?" Also the dealer should spell out exactly what he's going to do and that he is going to dispose of the previous system.
Tip: Any time you replace a condensing unit or heat pump, the dealer should also quote replacing the indoor evaporator coil as standard. Putting a new high efficiency-condensing unit, with an existing low efficiency coil will definitely reduce the efficiency of the condensing unit and the operating cost savings that you would receive.
